💝 Isn’t it Romantic? Valentine’s Day along the 290 Wine Trail
Valentine’s Day is on the horizon (and it’s on a Friday, so you can make it a weekend getaway!!), which means it’s time to start making plans for a little romance. Fortunately, Central Texas residents don’t have to go far to find a peaceful retreat where they can relax with their love. Dozens of vineyards, restaurants, and a cozy lodge await you. All tucked into an area of natural beauty make the 290 Wine Trail a perfect place to spend the weekend.

Your Getaway

There’s no shortage of lovely dinner destinations in the area where you and your favorite person can enjoy a feast.
One of the prettiest has to be at Grape Creek Vineyards. Watch the sun set over the vines with a glass of wine or head over to their newly opened Heath Sparkling Wine for a glass of bubbly. Then share a romantic dinner at Stout’s Trattoria next door. This Italian restaurant, Stout's Trattoria serves a simple but upscale Italian menu. Local meat and produce are the stars at August E’s. This fine-dining restaurant sources beef and game from local ranches, and the chef grows his own organic herbs. The menu here is farm-to-table Texas cuisine, but there’s international flair as well with sushi and Thai dishes.

In downtown Fredericksburg, The Vaudeville provides a unique dining experience. This beautiful space houses a bistro, supper club, gourmet market & wine cellar, home furnishing showroom, and art gallery all in one. You can have a glass of wine and wander the whole building while you wait for your table to be ready. For Valentine’s Day, they’re serving a 7-course tasting menu in the V Supper Club! Or you can share a simpler, European-style meal in the bistro.

The Texas Wine Country is in love with love. Maybe that’s why there’s an annual Valentine’s Day Festival in Fredericksburg! Running from Friday, February 14th through Sunday, February 16th, this celebration will be awash in champagne, rosé, and oysters! For entertainment, there will be live music throughout the weekend, as well as hot air balloon and helicopter rides. A big fireworks display on Saturday night will send you off with a bang. Romance has never been so festive!
If you want to take in the views, take a drive a bit southeast of Johnson City to visit the Arc de Texas. Inspired by the Parisian Arc de Triomphe, this unusual tasting room provides some of the best 360-degree views in the area. Have a glass from their expansive wine list while you take it all in.
But if you don’t mind working for your view, you can also climb to the top of Enchanted Rock State Nature Area to see the view from atop the ancient dome. Bring a picnic and watch the sun slip away across the countryside.
Once the sunset-watching and dining are complete, what will you do with rest of your evening? How about attending a ball? The Luckenbach Hug In and Valentine Ball runs February 14th and 15th, and features live music and dancing. But this is no fancy dress ball. Located in the historic Luckenbach Dance Hall, is a boots and hats affair — Valentine’s Day, the Texas way.
